Two Teen Boys Busted for Shining Laser at Police Helicopter Over Liverpool
Two teenage boys, aged just 16 and 13, were arrested after a dangerous laser beam was aimed at a National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter above Liverpool in the early hours of Friday, 18 July.
Green Laser Hits Emergency Police Helicopter
The NPAS chopper was rushing to an emergency call when it was struck by a bright green laser beam. The beam reportedly came from the West Liverpool area. The laser hit risked the safety of the crew and could have caused serious harm.
Serious Crime with Heavy Penalties
Shining a laser at an aircraft is not just stupid – it’s illegal and extremely dangerous. Under the Laser Misuse (Vehicles) Act 2018, offenders face up to five years in prison, unlimited fines, or both.
“Shining a laser at an aircraft is not only illegal, it is incredibly dangerous,” police said.
Lasers pointed at aircraft can blind or distract pilots temporarily, risking the lives of everyone on board.
