Man in Hospital After Double Murder Shocks Crawley Down

Two Women Killed Outside Home

Detectives are probing a brutal double murder in Crawley Down after two women, aged 32 and 76, were found dead outside a house on Sunday morning (22 December).

A 37-year-old man was discovered inside the Hazel Way property with serious injuries. He is now in critical condition at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, under arrest on suspicion of murder.

Investigation Underway

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Geldart, leading the Surrey and Sussex major crime team, confirmed:

“This is a tragic incident which has led to the death of two local women, one of whom was known to the suspect.”

“Members of the public, police, and paramedics did all they could to help the victims but sadly the two women died at the scene.”

“I extend my heartfelt sympathies to their families, who are being supported by specialist trained officers. I ask that people respect their privacy at this distressing time.”

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing, along with a forensic examination. Any media speculation is unhelpful. This was not a knife attack.”

“A cordon remains in place while we gather evidence. We appreciate local residents’ support and understanding.”

Community Left Reeling

Chief Superintendent Jerry Westerman, West Sussex divisional commander, said:

“This is an isolated yet shocking incident that has shaken many in the community.”

“We thank residents for supporting officers during enquiries.”

“Officers will be on patrol over the coming days to reassure locals. Anyone with concerns or information is encouraged to come forward.”
