Cops on Hunt for Suspect After New Year’s Eve Sexual Assault in Manchester
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have launched a critical phase in their investigation after a sexual assault rocked Manchester city centre in the early hours of New Year’s Day. Detectives have just released CCTV footage of a key suspect in a bid to crack the case wide open.
What Happened? The Attack Unfolded on Whitworth Street
The shocking assault took place at around 2:30 AM on January 1, 2024. The suspect reportedly struck up a conversation with the victim near Whitworth Street before leading them to Vimto Gardens where the attack happened. GMP’s City Centre CID detectives are now desperate for anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV images to come forward.
Detective Leads Plea for Public Help
“The victim is receiving comprehensive support during this challenging period,” said Detective Constable Andrew Halliwell, who is spearheading the probe. “We’re now at a critical stage where public assistance could prove vital in identifying the individual in the CCTV footage.”
Victim Support Is Front and Centre
The police are working closely with victim aid groups such as Rape Crisis England & Wales and Victim Support. These organisations are providing essential care to the survivor during this tough time.
