Heroic Passersby Save Man Who Collapsed at London School
Disaster struck at Chestnut Grove Academy this afternoon when a man suddenly collapsed, tumbling down steps and hitting his head.
Thankfully, two brave members of the public sprang into action immediately, performing crucial first aid until officers arrived.
Critical Moments: Officers and Public Join Forces
At the time, Acting Police Sergeant Baker and PC Gayler were holding a Safer Schools meeting nearby when a bystander rushed over begging for help. The man was unconscious and every second counted.
Finding locals already giving basic first aid — placing him in the recovery position and supporting his head — officers quickly called up the London Ambulance Service, London’s Air Ambulance, and London Fire Brigade to the scene with lights blazing.
Seizure Cause Confirmed, Patient Stable
Emergency crews discovered the man had suffered a seizure, which led to his fall. Thanks to the swift actions of the public and police, he was stabilised before the ambulance arrived just minutes later.
Public and Emergency Services Praised for Quick-Thinking Rescue
The police praised the courageous efforts of the two passersby, saying without their intervention the outcome could have been far worse. “Their quick thinking and bravery ensured the man’s safety while unconscious,” officers said.
With emergency teams working seamlessly together, the victim is now in stable condition. The dramatic rescue also brought a special sight to the schoolyard, as London’s Air Ambulance touched down in the playground — giving the kids quite a Friday afternoon thrill!
