Volunteer Cops Crack Down on Road Offenders Across East Kent
Volunteer police officers have been on patrol in Thanet, Ashford, Folkestone, Dover, and Canterbury, running tough traffic operations to keep local roads safe.
Thousands of Vehicles Stopped – Hundreds Caught Out
Since December 9, 2021, the team stopped 630 vehicles. Out of those, 575 drivers received warnings or action for issues like defective vehicles or traffic offences.
Four arrests were made for serious offences including drink driving and taking vehicles without consent.
Common Offences: Seatbelts, Phones, and Lights
A whopping 301 traffic offence reports were handed out. The top culprits? Not wearing seatbelts, using mobile phones behind the wheel, dodgy number plates, and faulty lights.
Vehicles Seized for No Insurance and More
Over the year, 39 cars were seized due to no insurance, licence problems, or failed road tax.
“By stopping and checking so many vehicles in East Kent, our volunteer special constables might have prevented crashes that could have seriously hurt drivers or others,” said Special Inspector James Johnston.
“We’ll keep up the pressure in 2023. So drivers, make sure your vehicle is roadworthy — check your tyres and lights, keep paperwork up to date, wear your seatbelt, and ditch the phone at the wheel. Play your part and help us keep the roads safe.”
