A sharp-eyed member of the public tipped off police, sparking a swift response that led to arrests in a series of terrifying attacks across South London.
Two Men Nabbed in Early Morning Raids
Just before 3.20am on Friday, 24 November, police swooped in Brixton to arrest a 22-year-old man. He faces serious charges including grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, and public order offences. He remains in custody as detectives dig deeper.
At the same spot, officers also detained a 35-year-old man on suspicion of burglary tied to a separate ongoing probe.
Detective Praises Public Help, Vows Tough Investigation
Detective Superintendent Dan O’Sullivan said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the public for their assistance that led to this arrest. I know that many people will have been incredibly concerned about the details of these linked investigations. I want to reassure local residents that we are continuing to carry out extra reassurance patrols.
“Our work doesn’t stop here. A dedicated team of detectives continues a thorough investigation. The arrested man will be questioned fully. We urge anyone with information to come forward immediately.”
Series of Chilling Attacks Lead to Arrest
- On 17 November around 4am, a woman on Sisters Avenue, SW11, spotted a man following her. She shouted, sending him fleeing. He was carrying a knife.
- Just two days later, 19 November at 1.40am on Sumburgh Road, SW12, a man grabbed a woman. She bravely escaped.
- Then, in a shocking stab attack on 23 November just after midnight, a driver was stabbed twice in the chest on Nightingale Lane, Clapham. Thankfully, his injuries aren’t life-threatening and he’s been released from hospital.
Suspect Spotted and Chased Twice by Police
Officers linked the suspect from all these incidents thanks to eyewitness descriptions. On 23 November, at about 2.50am near Clapham Common by Holy Trinity Church, police chased the man, but he escaped towards Clapham Common West Side.
Later at 4.45am, the same officers caught sight of him again — this time riding a red bicycle. Another chase unfolded on St John’s Road at the junction with Aliwal Road, but the suspect slipped away once more.
Police remain on high alert and urge anyone with more info to get in touch now.
