Hero Cops Save Woman From Smoke-Filled Nightmare
Two Staffordshire police officers, PCs Emily Gabbott and Josh Taylor, have been nominated for the prestigious National Police Bravery Awards 2024. Their lifesaving actions came after a vulnerable woman was trapped in her smoke-filled home, risking everything to get her to safety.
Distress Call Sparks Lightning-Fast Response
The terrifying incident began when the woman sent a video to her estranged partner showing a lit BBQ burning inside her house. Alarmed, the partner dialled 999 immediately, triggering a swift Staffordshire Police response.
PCs Gabbott and Taylor arrived to a scene thick with smoke pouring from open windows. With fire and ambulance crews still miles away, the officers knew time was running out.
Daring Rescue Through Smoke and Flames
- PC Taylor tried to batter down the front door.
- PC Gabbott gained access by climbing through a neighbour’s garden and entering via an open window.
- Inside, she found the woman unconscious and lying face down amid choking smoke.
- The pair worked together to rouse her and carry her out of danger.
- Taylor placed her in the recovery position on the lawn as Gabbott searched the house for others.
Firefighters soon arrived, and the officers provided critical first aid until ambulance crews took over. Refusing to take risks lightly, they also re-entered the home to ensure none of the woman’s children or others remained trapped.
Bravery Praised by Police Chiefs
Thanks to their fearless and decisive actions, the woman made a full recovery. Lee Robinson, Staffordshire Police Federation Chair, hailed their bravery as lifesaving. Chief Constable Chris Noble added that their selfless courage perfectly reflects Staffordshire Police’s values.
The daring duo’s nomination for the 2024 Police Bravery Awards highlights their extraordinary dedication and guts under pressure.
