Two Men Arrested After Knife-Point Taxi Robberies Rock Portsmouth
Police have busted two men following a spate of daring knifepoint robberies targeting taxi drivers in Paulsgrove, Portsmouth.
Four Taxi Attacks in Two Days
The violent crime spree struck on Friday, December 30, and Saturday, December 31, with four connected robberies aimed at lone taxi drivers. Cash and mobile phones were snatched during the terrifying hold-ups. Thankfully, none of the drivers were hurt.
Spar Shop Hit Linked to Taxi Raids
An earlier robbery at a Spar shop on Leith Avenue around 7.15pm on Wednesday, December 28, is now tied to the taxi crimes. A haul of cash was stolen from the convenience store in that incident.
Suspects in Custody
- 46-year-old man from Portsmouth
- 41-year-old man from Portsmouth
Both remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
Cops Thank the Public, Vow to Crack Down
“We would like to thank members of the public for their assistance in reporting any suspicious activity which may have been connected to these robberies,” said Detective Inspector James Stewart. “If you have not yet spoken to us but may have information which could assist the investigation team please do get in touch.”
Portsmouth District Chief Inspector Jim Pegler added: “This type of crime has a big impact on small businesses such as taxi firms and convenience stores. The offenders also targeted lone workers. This type of criminal activity is not acceptable in Portsmouth. We will continue our efforts to make Portsmouth safer for all its residents.”
