Police Nab Two ‘Bulldog-Style’ Dogs After Fatal Attack on Owner’s Brother

Two bulldog-type dogs have been rounded up by police following a deadly attack that claimed the life of a 33-year-old man in Hereford Close. The victim, known locally as Niko, was found lifeless in a back garden early Wednesday morning after officers responded to reports of loose dogs and a horrific stench.

Victim Found With Bite Injuries, Dogs Still at Large

West Midlands Police confirmed Niko had fatal bite wounds but haven’t yet identified which dog was responsible. While initially two dogs were seized, officers fear up to three more could still be roaming the local area. After a two-day intensive hunt using drone units and specialist dog handlers, two of the missing dogs were caught on Friday.

“We’d like to thank everyone for their help and information,” police said.

American Bulldog-Type Dogs Not Banned Breeds

The dogs involved are thought to be American Bulldog types, not banned breeds like XL Bullies. Neighbours say the owner shared the property with three Cane Corso dogs, known for their resemblance to American Bulldogs. The shockwaves from this incident have rippled through the community, with no history of aggressive behaviour from the dogs.

Neighbour Charlene Newman called the police after noticing the dreadful smell. “It was a really bad smell. Like something rotting… I didn’t see a body, but then the police put up a tent while they recovered it,” she revealed.

Another local, Shane, added: “No one heard any noise before the tragic discovery. You can see bloody scratches on the back window frame. It looks like Niko might have been attacked inside and tried to get out through the window.”

Investigation Ongoing as Family Supported

A post-mortem is underway to confirm the exact cause of death. By Thursday evening, tributes including candles and a roll-up cigarette had been placed where Niko was found.

Superintendent Sally Simpson said: “This is a really tragic incident, and the family of the man are being supported by officers.”

Police continue piecing together the events leading to Niko’s death and urge the public to report any sightings of loose dogs in the area immediately on 999.
