Police Snag Drug Dealers Hiding THC in Christmas Chocolates
West Yorkshire Police have issued a stark warning after uncovering drugs disguised as festive treats. Earlier this month, officers stopped a vehicle carrying what looked like innocent Christmas sweets — but inside, they found drugs cunningly wrapped to mimic popular brands like Quality Street, Celebrations, and Aero Minis.
The counterfeit sweets had cheeky new names: “Quality Heat,” “Calibrations,” and “Ammo Minis.” A police spokesperson urged the public to be on high alert. “Please be vigilant if you see these, they can contain dangerous amounts of THC and people sometimes do not realise the danger of consuming these items,” they said.
Christmas Sweet Covers Mask £300,000 Worth of Edible Cannabis
This isn’t the first time West Yorkshire has caught gangs using sweets to peddle drugs. Back in March, police uncovered £300,000 worth of cannabis edibles hidden inside chocolate boxes, disguised to look like beloved brands such as Dairy Milk and Milky Bar.
The organised crime groups targeted children with bright, colourful packaging, planning to distribute the drugs nationwide from their West Yorkshire base.
Massive Drug Haul Includes Heroin, Crack Cocaine, and Cannabis
Alongside the fake chocolates, officers seized approximately £6,750 in heroin, £2,000 in cannabis, and over £10,000 worth of crack cocaine. Detective Superintendent Fiona Gaffney, head of Serious and Organised Crime at West Yorkshire Police, slammed the gang operations.
“County Lines and the organised crime linked to it have a significant impact on the people of West Yorkshire and the communities we serve. It is associated with violence and the exploitation of many vulnerable individuals. Our goal is to disrupt these activities and reassure people in our county that we will not tolerate county lines criminality anywhere in West Yorkshire.”
