Driver Rams Police After Wrong-Way M20 Blitz

A motorist driving the wrong way down the M20 caused chaos on Friday evening before being stopped in a dramatic “tactical contact” by police. The rogue driver barreled westbound on the coastbound carriageway, prompting frantic calls from scared motorists.

Police Perform Risky Manoeuvre to End Drama

Kent Police’s Road Policing Unit arrived swiftly and initially tried to slow the driver down. But things escalated when the car sped towards officers. The police made “tactical contact” to safely bring the vehicle to a halt. Amazingly, no one was hurt.

“The important thing is that no one was hurt, and it took a team effort to safely end this incident. Thank you to everyone who called to alert us to this vehicle,” the police tweeted.

Following the incident, Kent Police contacted the DVLA to revoke the driver’s licence, ensuring the culprit won’t be back on the roads anytime soon.

Fear and History of Wrong-Way Dangers on M20

One woman praised the police after her terrified daughter almost faced disaster, tweeting: “The driver came towards my daughter who was absolutely terrified the car was going to hit someone.”

Wrong-way driving on Kent motorways is a recurring nightmare. Back in 2016, a near-miss on the M25 left drivers shaken. In 2019, a stolen lorry rumbled the M20 the wrong way – but vanished before police arrived. And in 2018, a stolen car rammed a police vehicle during a pursuit on the M20.

Police Car Damaged but Heroic Efforts Praised

The police vehicle that stopped the errant driver received damage in the process. Still, the team’s efforts earned praise from the public and social media alike.

With drivers risking lives by driving the wrong way at high speeds, Kent Police continue their relentless fight to keep the motorways safe.
