Suspected Suicide Attempt Sparks Police Stand-Off at South East London Hotel

A tense scene unfolded at a Premier Inn in Orpington when staff and guests were hurriedly evacuated after a man reportedly attempted suicide.

Police were called to The Walnuts hotel on Wednesday night at 10.15pm following urgent welfare concerns about a man in his 30s. The entire hotel was cleared as a safety precaution while officers, paramedics, and firefighters scoured the premises.

Man Detained Under Mental Health Act

The Met Police confirmed no injuries were reported. The man was detained under the Mental Health Act and rushed to a south London hospital for urgent care.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called at 10.15pm on Wednesday, 29 December, following concerns for the welfare of a man at a hotel in The Walnuts, Orpington. The building was evacuated as a precaution.”
