Thousands March After 24-Year-Old Killed by Police Bullet in South London
Thousands hit the streets of London demanding justice after 24-year-old Chris Kaba was shot dead by a Metropolitan Police officer during an arrest attempt in south London earlier this week.
Fatal Police Shooting Sparks Outrage and Family Fury
Kaba was killed by a single bullet amid a police stop following an automatic number plate reader alert linked to a firearms offence. Armed officers followed and boxed in his car on a narrow street. Despite CPR attempts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A search confirmed Kaba was unarmed.
The Metropolitan Police have launched a homicide investigation, covering murder and manslaughter.
Kaba’s family is devastated. They believe race played a role and claim he “would still be alive if he had been white.” The community erupted in anger, sparking Saturday’s march from Parliament Square to Scotland Yard to demand justice.
Stormzy Speaks Out, Calls for Unity and Perseverance
Music star Stormzy took to the stage at the rally to deliver a heartfelt speech. He said, “I was very hesitant to come up here because they try to make it about me – but it’s nothing about me. It’s about us, the family, and everyone who is grieving.”
“Chris has a mother, brothers, friends – this is unbearable for them. I want to use my voice for them.”
“Everyone here, I encourage you to have stamina. It’s exhausting fighting for justice, but we must keep going. They have murdered someone. Your family relies on you.”
“Chris Kaba could’ve been your brother, your uncle, or your nephew. Let’s support and love each other.”
The crowd greeted him with roaring applause as he stepped down outside Scotland Yard.
Mayor Khan Offers Condolences, Promises Answers
London Mayor Sadiq Khan expressed “heartfelt sympathies” to Kaba’s family, acknowledging the anger and pain across the city’s Black community.
“I fully understand the grave concerns and impact Chris’s death has had,” he said. “I recognise there are many unanswered questions, and I will press for answers.”
The Met Police homicide probe continues as London calls for justice in this high-profile police shooting.
