Death Toll Soars as Israel-Gaza Conflict Sparks Fears of Two-Front War
Casualties Mount: Over 1,100 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis Dead
The violence between Israel and Gaza rages on, with the Gaza health ministry reporting 1,100 Palestinian deaths and more than 5,300 injured. Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirms over 1,200 Israeli fatalities and 2,700 wounded after Hamas launched deadly attacks.
Israel Arming Civilians Near Gaza Amid Rising Attacks
In a bold move, Israel’s hardline far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has announced that every resident of Sderot — just 4km from the Gaza Strip — will be allowed to carry firearms. The decision follows the brutal Hamas assault. Since the announcement, the national security ministry says 10,600 people have rushed to apply for gun licenses, with the possibility this policy will expand to other towns.
Two-Front War Looms: Hezbollah Enters the Fray
Fears mount that Lebanon’s militant group Hezbollah could open a second front against Israel. Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for recent attacks, and hostile aircraft reportedly crossed into Israel’s north, forcing residents to take cover.
“While we do not want an escalation in the north, we are prepared and ready to fight a two-front war if necessary,” warned Mark Regev, senior adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
He added: “This conflict will end on Israel’s terms. Gaza will not be the same.”
Regev refused to disclose plans about re-occupying Gaza but hinted at a radical shift in the region’s reality post-conflict.
Citizens on Edge as Northern Towns Face Threats
Residents of Ma’alot-Tarshiha in northern Israel have been ordered to stay indoors and lock their doors amid fears of possible infiltrations from Lebanon. This warning follows alerts about hostile aerial incursions.
US Watches Closely, Warns Against Conflict Spillover
The White House is monitoring the volatile Lebanon-Israel border situation. National Security spokesman John Kirby voiced concerns over rocket fire from southern Lebanon, stressing that the US opposes any widening of the war.
“Israel’s interest lies in preventing a second front,” Kirby said.
