Major Cocaine Haul Found on Dorset and Hampshire Coasts Sparks NCA Probe
Hundreds of Kilos of Suspected Cocaine Wash Up Along UK Beaches
The National Crime Agency (NCA) has launched a serious investigation after a huge stash of suspected cocaine was discovered off the coasts of Dorset and Hampshire. Holdalls packed with hundreds of kilograms of powder were found floating near St Aldhelm’s Point and Durdle Door in Purbeck. Additional packages also washed up on a beach on the Isle of Wight earlier today.
A fisherman first spotted the haul on Monday, October 2, 2023, and swiftly contacted the authorities. The seized packages are now undergoing forensic tests to confirm the exact contents and quantities.
Top Brass Warn Public: Don’t Touch Any Suspicious Bags
The NCA is working closely with Border Force, Dorset Police, and Hampshire Police. Senior Investigating Officer Tracey Lake warned the class A drugs are believed to come from South America and could severely damage criminal gangs involved in trafficking.
Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Farrell praised the efforts of Dorset’s marine team and HM Coastguard for recovering the suspect holdalls. She urged locals not to touch any suspicious packages but to contact Dorset Police immediately.
“We remain committed to working relentlessly with partner agencies to pursue criminals and organised gangs, keeping our communities safe,” Farrell said.
Hampshire Police Hunt for Witness After Litter Pickers Find More Packages
Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Murray revealed that police are scouring the West Wight coastline following multiple discoveries of further suspicious bags by a litter picking group. He encouraged anyone finding such items along the Hampshire and Isle of Wight coastlines to report them straight away.
Murray is also appealing for a man in his 60s, described as slim, about 5ft 6ins tall, with short grey hair and a birthmark near his mouth, believed to be a member of the litter picking group, to come forward as a witness.
