Six Pigeons Die in Horrific Trap at The O2 Arena
Animal lovers are fuming after six pigeons were found dead, caught in cruel anti-bird netting at The O2 Arena in North Greenwich. Campaigners say the venue’s negligence cost innocent birds their lives.
Birds Trapped, Left to Suffer
Last Thursday, four pigeons were discovered dead, trapped above the arena’s main entrance near the smoking area. Two more were alive but “visibly panicked and distressed,” according to witnesses.
London Fire Brigade rushed to the scene but couldn’t reach the trapped birds with a cherry picker. O2 staff reportedly told worried onlookers that the issue would be “passed to maintenance.”
Three days later, all six birds had died, sparking outrage from locals and animal rights groups. Critics slammed the arena for failing to act quickly enough.
Legal Trouble Looms for The O2
The incident has been reported to both the police and the RSPCA. Animal welfare campaigners warn the venue could be in breach of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, which forbids causing unnecessary suffering to protected animals.
“This is not just a moral failure, it is a legal one. The O2 is responsible for maintaining the netting, and by failing to act, they have allowed these animals to die slow, preventable deaths.”
Calls for Urgent Action
Campaigners demand The O2 remove any remaining trapped birds immediately and urgently review their anti-bird netting to stop any more needless deaths.
The O2 Arena has been contacted for a comment but has yet to respond.
