27 Arrested Across England in Airport Disruption Crackdown
Police have swooped on suspects in London and nine other counties, nabbing 27 people linked to plans to disrupt key national infrastructure.
Just Stop Oil Members Among Those Held
All arrests were made under a tough section of the Public Order Act targeting conspiracies to disrupt vital services. Among those detained are high-profile Just Stop Oil activists believed to be key organisers.
Mass Arrests Spanning Gatwick to East London
- Four people were arrested at Gatwick Airport on Tuesday. They have since been released on bail.
- Six more were picked up during a public event at an East London community centre on Thursday evening, where airport disruption was openly promoted.
- Early this morning, the Metropolitan Police teamed up with eight other forces to arrest 17 suspects at their homes nationwide.
Police Crackdown Ahead of Summer Disruptions
Chief Supt Ian Howells said: “We know Just Stop Oil are planning airport disruptions across the country this summer which is why we have acted swiftly and firmly. Anyone threatening airport safety in London will face a strong police response.”
“Airports are complex environments, so we’re working closely with airport officials, agencies and partners to stay ahead.”
Those released on bail face strict conditions, including a ban on coming within 1km of any UK airport unless travelling through by vehicle or public transport. Anyone breaching this face immediate arrest.
This crackdown sends a clear warning to activists planning to target critical transport hubs this summer. Authorities are on high alert to keep airports running smoothly.
