Thailand Cracks Down on Crime with New Digital Border System
Thailand is gearing up to slam the door on transnational crime with a cutting-edge digital immigration system launching this May. The move aims to tighten border security and snuff out shadowy criminal networks lurking in the kingdom.
TM.6 Online: The New Digital Gatekeeper
National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kitrat Phanphet revealed the upcoming rollout of TM.6 Online, a slick digital immigration form set to screen travellers before they even step foot in Thailand. This system will plug directly into national security databases to flag and block suspects, shutting down entry for those flagged as risks.
The new tech is a sharp response to rising concerns about illegal Chinese syndicates and other foreign crime groups involved in drug running, human trafficking, and cyber scams.
Targeting Illegal Fronts and Financial Crimes
But the crackdown doesn’t stop at borders. Thai police are cracking down hard on illegal businesses run by foreigners hiding behind Thai fronts, especially in Bangkok. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra slammed these backdoor dealings as a blatant denial of Thai law and sovereignty.
The government is rallying multiple agencies to smash these rings once and for all, showing zero tolerance for lawbreaking in the kingdom.
Backing from Abroad and Tougher Enforcement
The crackdown has drawn backing from international partners. The Chinese Embassy in Bangkok vowed full support, pledging to share intelligence and join efforts to bust cross-border criminal networks.
“We are committed to protecting the integrity of Thailand’s borders and ensuring that foreign criminals cannot use our country as a base for illegal activities. TM.6 Online represents a major step forward in our fight against international crime,” said Pol. Gen. Kitrat.
Battle Against Transnational Crime Continues
Transnational crime has long plagued Thailand, exploiting its location and infrastructure for human trafficking, cyber fraud and money laundering. Past efforts like Operation Meacan and regional ASEAN cooperation have scored wins against crime rings.
But officials hope TM.6 Online will supercharge early detection and stop criminals in their tracks before they even enter the country.
Stay Alert, Thailand
Authorities are urging citizens and businesses to report suspicious activities. With TM.6 Online about to go live, Thailand is sending a crystal-clear message: this kingdom will no longer be a safe haven for crooks and scams.
