Shisha Bar Busted for Flouting COVID Rules – 20 Fined!
Police and Council Crack Down on Illegal Gathering
A Sheffield shisha bar was slammed with a hefty dose of law enforcement after breaking COVID-19 rules. South Yorkshire Police and Sheffield City Council launched a joint investigation following numerous community complaints. Despite earlier warnings, the bar ignored regulations, forcing police and council officers to swoop in with a warrant last night.
Fines All Round as 20 Caught Red-Handed
Inside the premises, officers found 20 people, including the bar owner, in breach of health protection laws. Each was slapped with a £200 Fixed Penalty Notice. That’s a cool £4,000 in fines for reckless rule-breakers refusing to play by the COVID rulebook.
70 Shisha Pipes Seized Amid COVID Crackdown
Environmental Health officers didn’t stop at the tickets – they confiscated 70 shisha pipes from the venue. Inspector John Mallows from the City Centre Neighbourhood Team said:
“We want the public to know police and local authorities will act against COVID breaches. Last night’s warrant highlights our team-up to tackle repeat offenders.”
He added the bar had been repeatedly reported by locals, stirring community anger. “Previous visits and warnings were ignored, so enforcement was the only option. These restrictions keep us safe and stop this virus spreading. Anyone flouting them risks not just themselves but everyone’s lives.”
Council Vows to Keep Up the Pressure
Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Streetscene and Climate Change, Mark Jones, said:
“We work closely with police to sniff out businesses breaking COVID law. It’s tough for hospitality, but sacrifices are needed to slow the spread and save lives. We’ll keep enforcing and thank those who report violations. We also guide businesses on compliance and support available.”
