Hunt for Sgt Matt Ratana’s Killer Ramps Up
The Met Police are racing to crack the murder of Sgt Matt Ratana. Leading the charge are homicide detectives from the Specialist Crime Command, backed by forensic experts, search teams, and local officers.
Major Searches Underway in Surrey and South London
- Intensive searches continue at two key sites:
- A property on Southbrook Road, Norbury.
- An address off Park Road, Banstead, Surrey – covering several derelict buildings and over 30 acres of land.
- Additional searches have taken place around London Road, Pollards Hill, South London – where the suspect was first arrested.
- Another search occurred at an undisclosed central London location.
- Croydon Custody Centre on Windmill Lane remains sealed off as a crime scene.
Suspects in Custody But Investigation Far From Over
The primary suspect remains in critical condition in hospital, leaving detectives unable to question him.
A second man was arrested in Norwich at 2am on Sunday, 27 September, and is held on suspicion of supplying a firearm.
Detectives stress this is not a counter-terrorism case. Officers involved are giving witness statements under strict post-incident protocols, overseen by the Independent Office for Police Conduct. The probe is expected to take some time.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vows Justice for Sgt Ratana
“It is five days since the murder of our colleague and our work continues at a high tempo,” said Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy.
“We’ve found key witnesses who have shed light on the events leading to the shooting. Forensic examinations, including analysis of the recovered gun, are ongoing.”
“Sgt Ratana’s death shook the Metropolitan Police to its core. His colleagues are determined to deliver justice for him and his family.
“I urge everyone to avoid speculation, as it could jeopardise a future prosecution. The support from the public means a great deal to all of us during this dark time.”
