Brave Pensioner Battled Thieves – Left Beaten in Shocking Scooter Theft Attempt
A heroic 79-year-old cancer sufferer was left battered and bruised after fighting off thieves trying to steal her mobility scooter at her Dunston home at dawn on Sunday.
Attack at Dawn Leaves Ida in Agony
Ida Brown, who is battling leukaemia and recently had a pacemaker fitted, was woken just after 5.30am by her huge cat, Henry VIII, disturbed by noise at the back door. When she opened the door to investigate, two young men shoved her into the wall before fleeing.
The savage attack left Ida on the floor with a painful injured knee, severe bruising around her eyes and face, and unable to open one eye for days. Despite the ordeal, the thieves failed to steal her vital mobility scooter.
Scared but Defiant: Ida’s Message to Neighbourhood
“They didn’t manage to steal my scooter but I can just remember them running away and shouting, ‘we’ll be back’,” Ida revealed.
She added: “I’ve got leukaemia and just had a pacemaker fitted in my heart, so I need my scooter to get around. My knee really hurts and I couldn’t open my eye for days after it happened. I can’t take some painkillers because of my condition, so it hurts a lot.”
Ida urged the police to catch the attackers, warning, “There are lots of elderly people around here and I don’t want anyone to go through what I had to.”
