Three police officers were left injured after a violent arrest attempt in Crawley on Saturday afternoon, sparking a major police response.

Violent Struggle on Gossops Drive

Sussex Police were called to a property on Gossops Drive at around 2.30pm as part of an ongoing investigation. When officers tried to arrest a suspect, the man violently resisted, assaulting three officers and causing significant injuries. He then fled into a nearby house.

Road Closure and Emergency Response

Gossops Drive was temporarily sealed off while emergency teams secured the scene, causing traffic disruption. The road has now reopened.

A 43-year-old Crawley man was later arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and remains in custody.

All three injured officers were rushed to hospital. Thankfully, their injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

Police Speak Out Against Violence

Detective Superintendent Karrie Bohanna said: “Violence towards emergency workers is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Police officers put themselves at risk to protect the public, but they should not expect to be assaulted in the course of their duties. I would like to commend these three officers for their bravery.”

Call for Witnesses

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has doorbell, CCTV, or mobile phone footage to come forward.

Information can be submitted online via the Sussex Police website or by calling 101, quoting Operation Whitby.
