Lewes Bonfire Night Clean-Up Crew Smash It With Nine Tonnes of Waste Cleared
Lewes District Council has saluted the unstoppable team behind this year’s spotless Lewes Bonfire Night clean-up. The Environment First crew pulled an all-nighter, collecting a whopping nine tonnes of rubbish between 1am and 7am, wiping the town clean after the big celebrations.
Pristine Streets and a Big Thank You Breakfast
By Sunday morning, Lewes looked brand new – no trace of bonfire chaos. To reward their hard graft, the clean-up crew enjoyed a hearty breakfast at Lewes Town Hall. Mayor Matthew Bird, along with councillors Wendy Maples and Imogen Makepeace, served up a mix of traditional English grub and vegan treats in a classy nod to the team’s effort.
Mayor Hails Eco-Friendly, Lightning-Fast Clean-Up
“It’s like the bonfire night never happened,” boasted Mayor Bird, praising the crew’s lightning speed. Councillor Maples chipped in, highlighting the use of new all-electric refuse vehicles — proof Lewes is serious about going green.
Teamwork and Top Planning Keep Bonfire Night Safe and Spotless
The event’s success wasn’t just down to the clean-up crew. Police, St John’s Ambulance, Regulatory Services staff, councils, local businesses, and bonfire societies all worked hand-in-hand for months to keep the event safe and smooth.
On top of that, the Neighbourhood First Team kept main council toilets open and supplied eco-friendly portable loos. Supported by ace cleaners and security, these facilities served around 20,000 attendees, helping keep Lewes tidy and green.
