Tragic Death of Burnley Woman After Roundabout Collision
Emergency services rushed to a Burnley roundabout on December 11, 2020, after a Lexus crashed into two pedestrians. The accident happened at the junction of Casterton Avenue, Eastern Avenue, and Briercliffe Road around 5.05pm.
Janet Collinge Succumbs to Injuries
Janet Collinge, 72, was seriously injured in the crash and taken to Royal Preston Hospital. She was released weeks later but sadly passed away at her Burnley home on Wednesday.
The Lexus driver, a man in his 50s, escaped injury and is cooperating with police inquiries.
Police Launch Full Investigation
“Our thoughts are with Mrs Collinge’s family at this incredibly difficult time,” said Sgt Mick Belfield of Lancashire Police TacOps Unit. “An investigation has been launched into the full circumstances of the collision and enquiries are ongoing.”
Family Pay Heartfelt Tribute
Janet’s family described her as a proud Burnley native and devoted family woman. “She was never happier than when surrounded by her husband David, children Lee, Julie, and Kelly, her eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren,” the tribute said.
“Janet was well-loved, sociable, and known for her kindness to friends and strangers alike. She enjoyed crafting and travelling around the UK in her caravan.”
The family added, “Sadly, Janet never recovered from the accident. She was taken from us on February 3. We will celebrate her life but miss her terribly.”
