Bomb Scare at Stansted Ends Without Incident
Officers have wrapped up their probe into a suspicious device spotted on a flight landing at London Stansted Airport on Sunday, 30 August.
Two Men Detained as Terror Probe Launched
Counter Terrorism Policing’s Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) swooped after reports of a suspicious item found in the plane’s toilet. The flight had just touched down from Vienna, Austria, shortly after 7pm. Two men were detained under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act (2000) while investigators checked the device.
False Alarm as Device Deemed Harmless
Specialist teams examined the item and confirmed it posed no threat. The two men questioned were released with no offences found.
Detective Superintendent Andy Waldie said: “We understandably take any reports of suspicious objects or behaviour very seriously. Thankfully, on this occasion, there was no cause for concern. I’d like to thank those on the flight for their cooperation and understanding while officers conducted their enquiries.”
