High-Speed Chase Ends in Jaywick After Shooting Panic
A dramatic police hunt ended when officers stopped a car linked to a shooting scare in Jaywick on Friday afternoon.
Shooting Turns Out to Involve Air Weapon
At around 2.15pm on 2nd July, reports came in of a man being shot in Jaywick. Firearms teams, backed by unarmed Tendring response officers, rushed to Beach Road. The weapon was quickly confirmed to be an air weapon, not a firearm.
Despite the quick response, the suspect and weapon initially vanished.
Chase on the A12 Ends with Stinger and Arrests
Not long after, police spotted the suspect’s car on the A12. A pursuit began with backup from a police helicopter and road policing units in Stanway. A stinger device was deployed, and specialist officers boxed the vehicle in, forcing it to stop.
Essex Police dogs found a weapon hidden in bushes by the stopped car. It’s now in police hands.
Two From London Held Over Kidnap and Assault
Detectives at Clacton CID launched an investigation and arrested a 27-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, both from London. They face suspicion of kidnap, assault, and possession of an imitation firearm intended to cause fear.
Both remain in custody as officers continue questioning them.
