Zaporizhzhia Mourns After Deadly Russian Strike
The southern Zaporizhzhia region has declared a day of mourning after a brutal Russian missile strike in the town of Vilniansk killed seven people and injured 36 more. The attack targeted local shops and left an almost destroyed low-rise building, as emergency crews scrambled to clear debris.
Local governor Ivan Fedorov took to social media to announce, “June 30 is a day of mourning in Zaporizhzhia region for those killed in the enemy attack on Vilniansk.”
Casualties Include Children and Civilians
The interior ministry confirmed the number of wounded reached 36, including three children, one woman, and three men. Horror footage from the scene shows frantic rescue efforts amid the rubble.
Meanwhile, the death toll across eastern Ukraine continues to rise, with eight people killed in nearby conflict zones in the past 24 hours.
Fierce Fighting Rages Near Toretsk and ‘New York’
The Ukrainian army reports ongoing Russian attacks targeting the city of Toretsk. Fierce battles are currently underway in the front-line village of New York. Both sides continue to use drone warfare extensively, with Moscow claiming to have shot down 36 Ukrainian UAVs near the border regions of Kursk, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Bryansk, Oryol, and Belgorod.
Voronezh Governor Aleksandr Gusev confirmed no casualties or damage resulted from the drone interceptions.
Escalated Conflict as Putin Pushes Offensive
Ukraine has intensified strikes inside Russian territory this year, targeting energy infrastructure said to support Moscow’s war machine. In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a major offensive in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, aiming to establish a “buffer zone” and push Ukrainian forces away from Russia’s Belgorod border amid ongoing shelling.
