Man in his 60s dies after hit-and-run in Bexley

A man in his 60s has tragically died after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident in Bexley late on Wednesday evening (November 15).

Incident Details

The collision occurred at the junction of Vicarage Road and Tile Kiln Lane shortly after 11:30 pm. Emergency services, including officers from the Metropolitan Police, the London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance, attended the scene and found the man with severe injuries. Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Arrested

The car involved in the collision failed to stop at the scene. A 45-year-old man later attended a police station voluntarily and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at a collision. He remains in police custody while investigations continue.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

The Metropolitan Police have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage from anyone in the area at the time of the incident.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said:
*”Detectives are appealing for witnesses and any road users with dash cam footage to come forward following a fatal collision in Bexley.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who was travelling on or near Vicarage Road at the time of the incident and may have captured events on dash cam, is urged to contact police immediately.”*

Witnesses or anyone with relevant information are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 020 8246 9820 or call 101, quoting CAD9294/15Nov. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be provided through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed, and police are continuing their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
