Brighton’s Peregrine Falcons Welcome Two Chicks at Sussex Heights

Brighton’s beloved peregrine falcons, nesting high above the city on Sussex Heights, have successfully hatched two chicks from their recent clutch of four eggs, delighting local wildlife watchers and conservationists.

The iconic birds of prey, which have become a familiar sight in the skies over Brighton, are monitored each year by a dedicated team of volunteers and bird lovers. The Sussex Heights nest site has long been a safe haven for the falcons, offering a high vantage point ideal for both nesting and hunting.

This spring, the resident pair laid a clutch of four eggs. As of this week, two fluffy chicks have hatched, with hopes still high for the remaining eggs.

The new arrivals mark another chapter in the success story of peregrines in urban environments, where tall buildings mimic their natural cliffside nesting spots.

“Every successful hatch is a cause for celebration,” said a spokesperson from the Sussex Ornithological Society. “These falcons have found an incredible home at Sussex Heights, and it’s a real privilege for Brighton to host such a special part of our native wildlife.”

Live footage from a dedicated nest camera has captured the parents diligently caring for their young, taking turns to feed and protect the chicks from the elements.

Locals and visitors can follow the family’s progress online, with updates provided by conservation groups working to protect and promote awareness of these majestic birds.

As the chicks grow, they’ll spend the next several weeks developing their flight feathers and strength before attempting their first flights later in the summer — a key milestone that many falcon watchers eagerly anticipate each year.
