Van Completely Destroyed in East Dulwich Blaze

A van has been completely destroyed following a dramatic fire in East Dulwich this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Ondine Road at 3:12pm after reports of a vehicle alight near the junction with Grove Vale, just a short distance from a Shell petrol station.

The London Fire Brigade confirmed that one fire engine was dispatched to the scene and brought the blaze under control by 4:04pm. However, the van was entirely destroyed by the flames.

Footage captured shortly after 3:20pm shows firefighters tackling the intense fire, with flames protruding from the roof of the van as it burned near the entrance to the road. Thick black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky and was visible from surrounding streets, drawing the attention of passersby and commuters at a nearby bus stop.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:

“Firefighters were called to a van alight on Ondine Road. The vehicle was completely destroyed by fire. One fire engine attended, and the fire was under control by 4.04pm.”

There are no reports of injuries, and the cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed. The close proximity of the blaze to a fuel station has raised concerns, although there were no reported risks of escalation.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to follow.
