100 Firefighters Battle Massive Blaze at Iconic BBC TV Centre on Wood Lane
A huge fire has broken out at a nine-storey mixed-use building on Wood Lane, London, home to the famous BBC TV Centre. Fire crews scrambled to the scene at 3.08am on Saturday, with around 100 firefighters tackling fierce flames engulfing the upper floors.
Flames Rage Through Upper Floors
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed the fire is affecting several floors, including a restaurant, external decking, and ducting. Several residential flats inside the building may also be impacted by the blaze, which remains fierce despite ongoing efforts.
Evacuations and Road Closures
Authorities are evacuating residents as a precautionary measure, working closely with the Metropolitan Police and emergency services. A rest centre is being set up for those displaced.
Wood Lane is closed to all traffic, with officials urging people to stay clear while firefighters continue their battle against the fire.
Firefighting Efforts in Full Force
Fire crews from Hammersmith, North Kensington, Kensington, Chiswick, and nearby stations are on site. Two 32-metre turntable ladders are being used as water towers to fight the blaze from above.
“The fire is affecting several floors towards the top of the building. Our crews are working extremely hard in challenging conditions alongside our partners to bring the situation under control and keep people safe,” said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson.
Cause Still Unknown
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials will launch a full inquiry once the blaze is fully extinguished.
