Human Remains Horror at Hull Funeral Home: Case Hits CPS Desk
Shocking Find at Hull Funeral Directors
An investigation into human remains uncovered at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull has reached a crucial point. Humberside Police have referred the case to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for review, raising fresh hope for grieving families.
Massive Probe Uncovered 35 Bodies and 13,000 Evidence Items
The investigation kicked off last year after police found 35 bodies and suspected ashes at the Hessle Road funeral home. Over 10 intense months, detectives have collected more than 13,000 pieces of evidence. The discovery has left scores of families across Hull and East Yorkshire devastated, uncertain if they ever received the correct remains of their loved ones.
Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin said: “Following a meticulous investigation, a comprehensive file of evidence has now been submitted to the CPS for their detailed consideration. Families of the 35 deceased have been informed of this significant development by specially trained officers.”
Families Face Heartbreaking Ashes Mix-Up
Many relatives suspect they were handed the wrong ashes, adding to their heartbreak. Some families have already been officially told by police that the remains they received weren’t those of their loved ones.
McLoughlin added, “The investigation has been comprehensive and sensitive. We deeply appreciate the patience and cooperation of the families and the wider community. Their support has been invaluable in our efforts to seek answers for them and their loved ones.”
Arrests Made, Bail in Place as Case Moves Forward
Two suspects remain on conditional police bail – a man nabbed in March 2024 and a woman arrested in July 2024. The CPS will soon decide whether to press charges. Authorities promise to update families as the situation develops.
