Gas Main Rupture Sparks Evacuation at TV Studio

A six-inch gas main burst in the basement of a TV studio on Upper Ground, currently under refurbishment. Luckily, no injuries have been reported.

Mass Evacuation and Road Closures

Station Commander Matt Williams was at the scene. He said: “Road closures were in place while firefighters worked with partners to isolate the gas leak and make the area safe.”

About 90 people were evacuated from the studio and nearby buildings. A 25-metre safety cordon was enforced as a precaution.

Firefighters Respond Swiftly

  • The Brigade was called at 5:27pm
  • Incident wrapped up by 9:35pm
  • Three fire engines from Dowgate, Soho, and another station arrived
  • Three fire rescue units from Euston, Bethnal Green, and Bexley also attended

The quick actions prevented any harm and ensured the gas leak was safely contained.
