Hero Essex Cops Rescue Confused Pensioner Stranded at Stansted
An 85-year-old grandad was left dazed and confused at one of the UK’s busiest airports – but Essex Police swooped in to save the day.
Missing Flight Sparks Midnight Airport Drama
Michael Furniss touched down at Stansted Airport from Tenerife late on Thursday, July 2. The pensioner soon became disoriented, worrying officers who quickly realised he had missed his connecting flight to Stockholm, Sweden.
After a check-up by paramedics, officers got in touch with Michael’s daughter, Rose, and stayed by his side throughout the night.
Cop Chauffeurs Pensioner to Heathrow for Next Flight
With the next Stansted-to-Sweden flight not until Saturday, July 4, the officers didn’t leave it to chance. They personally drove Michael to Heathrow Airport, making sure he was looked after right up to his plane boarding.
Michael praised their care: “They really looked after me and they were very charming. It was my first ever dealings with the police. They were first class and ever so friendly.”
Family Relieved as Police Go Above and Beyond
His daughter Rose added: “I knew my father was being cared for and that he was in safe hands. Thanks to Essex Police, I never had to worry.”
Superintendent Steve Ditchburn, airport commander, said: “My officers acted quickly to help Michael, contacting family and going the extra mile – literally driving him to another airport. They truly showed humanity and professionalism.”
