Orwell Bridge Shut Tight by Howling Winds – Suffolk Drivers Beware!
The A14 Orwell Bridge in Suffolk is slammed shut due to savage winds. Safety chiefs say it won’t reopen until around 11pm tonight at the earliest.
Wind Warnings Close the Bridge
Highways England has pulled the plug on traffic over the Orwell Bridge after gusts reached dangerous levels. “It’s just not safe for vehicles to cross right now,” they warned.
Officials are keeping a hawk’s eye on wind speeds and will only reopen once conditions improve.
Detours and Caution for All Road Users
Drivers must follow the clearly signed diversion via the A1156, A1189, and A1214. Those cross-country trips will take a bit longer, so plan ahead.
Watch out for powerful gusts, especially if you’re behind the wheel of high-sided vehicles, towing caravans, or riding motorbikes and bicycles. Leave plenty of space and take care.
