A34 Shut After Serious Crash Between Newbury and Andover

The A34 is closed between the B4640 near Newbury and the A303 at Andover following a serious road traffic collision. Hampshire Police and emergency crews are on the scene.

Highways England has deployed teams to manage the situation. Motorists should brace for delays and allow extra travel time.

Expect Major Delays – Use Alternative Routes

If you’re heading southbound on the A34, avoid the chaos by taking the Wash Common interchange. Follow these diversion steps:

  1. At Wash Common roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A343.
  2. Drive under the A34 and stay on the A343 for about 14 miles until you reach Andover.
  3. At the A3093 roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the A3093 (One Way).
  4. Continue over two roundabouts to the A303 Picket Twenty interchange, then take the 1st exit onto the A303 eastbound.
  5. After roughly 5 miles, leave the A303 at Bullington Cross interchange and follow the link roads back to the A34 southbound.

Look out for road signs marked with a solid black triangle symbol to guide you through the diversion.

Plan Ahead or Delay Travel

If possible, delay your journey or find an alternative route. The closure could cause significant travel disruption for hours.
