Revolutionary Reds Take On Lloyds Over Cuba Bank Account Closures
Yesterday afternoon (17th December), the Brighton branch of the Revolutionary Communist Group descended on Lloyds Bank’s North Road branch. Their mission? To spotlight the bank’s closure of accounts linked to “1c4cuba” – a campaign backed by Cuba solidarity groups across Britain and Europe.
Bank Accounts Shut Over US Blockade Protest
These accounts were vital in calling out British and European banks complicit in enforcing the US blockade on Cuba. The group aims to make these US-driven sanctions “unenforceable” on British soil.
Lloyds Urged to Stop Blocking Humanitarian Aid to Cuba
The protesters demand Lloyds end the shutdown of accounts funding humanitarian aid to Cuba, and halt blocking transactions linked to the campaign.
Crackdown Continues Across UK Banks
“Our members will continue to call out any British banks that undertake illegal actions that enable the US stranglehold on Cuba to continue. Members from across the country have picketed branches and HQs of Lloyds, Metro Bank and RBS,” the group declared on social media.
The campaign shows no sign of letting up, pushing UK banks to choose sides in the ongoing Cuba sanctions saga.
