Preston Circus Fire Station Gets £4.9 Million Makeover
After months of heavy refurb, Preston Circus Community Fire Station has officially flung open its doors today. The £4.9 million facelift has transformed one of East Sussex’s busiest fire hubs, bringing it right up to modern standards.
Historic Station Gets a Modern Boost
The fire station, a Brighton and Hove landmark since 1901, has been dramatically upgraded to handle today’s demanding fire and rescue needs. But don’t worry, the iconic curved frontage still stands tall, preserving its historic charm.
- Top-tier decontamination facilities to keep firefighters safe post-incident.
- Swanky new staff quarters for better working conditions.
- Eco-friendly heating systems cutting the station’s environmental impact.
- Brand new accessible community room to boost public engagement.
East Sussex’ Busiest Fire Base
Chief Fire Officer Mark Matthews underlined Preston Circus’s vital role, calling it the busiest station in East Sussex.
“Preston Circus serves Brighton & Hove and supports other stations across East Sussex. Two fire engines and an Aerial Ladder Platform, critical for high-altitude rescues, now run from here,” Matthews said.
In 2023 alone, Preston’s firefighters tackled 1,812 incidents, including:
- 148 major fires
- 44 road traffic collisions
- 126 fire safety checks
- 751 home safety visits
- 280 hours of community engagement
More Than Just a Fire Station
The upgraded fire station doubles as a community hub, with a dedicated space for local groups to team up on prevention and safety projects.
“This revamp isn’t just about boosting firefighter facilities. It’s about giving real value back to the community,” added Matthews.
