Southend Bank Holiday: Police Crackdown on Antisocial Behaviour
If you’re heading to Southend this Bank Holiday weekend, expect a heavy police presence. Officers will be patrolling the city, ready to keep the peace and protect everyone’s safety.
Enjoy the Weekend – But Stay Safe
Police urge both residents and visitors to have fun but warned: don’t put yourself or others at risk. “We want everyone to enjoy Southend without feeling harassed or alarmed,” said Chief Superintendent Andy Waldie.
Strict Dispersal Order in Effect
To tackle potential trouble, a dispersal order is active between 9am Monday 10 April and 3am Tuesday 11 April. This gives officers the power to order anyone suspected of antisocial behaviour – especially dangerous driving or riding – to leave the area immediately.
Officers will direct motorbikes to park at the Eastern Esplanade car park, previously known as the Gas Works. There’s also an unrelated car cruise event expected on Monday evening in the same zone.
Fail to comply? Arrest is on the table.
Police Ready to Act on Disorder
“Southend sees a big turnout from bikers and car fans, who mostly add to the vibe,” said Ch Supt Waldie. “But past events have sparked disorder and antisocial antics – and we’re not having it this time.”
The dispersal order covers Eastern Esplanade, Marine Parade, Western Esplanade, Southchurch Avenue, and Victoria Road.
Officers on Patrol to Keep You Safe
Police will be visible throughout the city, ready to tackle any trouble. If you have concerns, officers encourage you to speak up. “They aren’t here to spoil your fun – they’re here to keep everyone safe,” Waldie added.
