Search Launched After Dog Walker Sighting
Police and Fire & Rescue special water search teams kicked into action after a local dog walker spotted a man matching missing Fleetrunner Mark Baldwin’s description near the Basingstoke Canal on Reading Road, Fleet.
All-Night Canal Search
The search began early Monday morning and intensified after 8pm when crews from Cosham and Basingstoke joined the operation, combing a large stretch of the waterway by torchlight. The search paused due to poor visibility but resumed at first light Tuesday.
Body Found; Formal ID Underway
Hampshire Police have now confirmed a body has been recovered. Mark Baldwin’s family, aged 45, have been informed and are receiving specialist support.
Formal identification is ongoing, but police do not suspect foul play at this time.
