Heroic Police Save Man’s Life on London Bridge
City of London Police Firearms officers raced to the rescue when a man suffered a cardiac arrest on London Bridge late Monday night, October 21, 2024. Their quick thinking and skilled intervention saved a life.
Officers Perform Life-Saving CPR
At around 11.20pm, emergency services were alerted by a 999 call reporting a man collapsed on the bridge. Firearms officers were first on scene and found a bystander trying to help. Detecting no pulse, the officers immediately jumped into action, taking turns performing CPR.
They also used a defibrillator, tirelessly working until the London Ambulance Service arrived. After sustained effort, a faint pulse returned, and the man was rushed to hospital.
Police Praise Fast Action and Training
“The intervention of the six firearms officers was crucial, and I commend them for their actions. The officers’ advanced medical training was vital in being able to secure a pulse and get the man to the hospital,” said Assistant Commissioner Paul Betts.
This brave response shines a spotlight on the life-saving role firearms officers play—not just in crime control, but in urgent medical emergencies on London’s streets.
