Knife Crime Crackdown Hits Maidstone Streets
Since Monday 16 May 2022, police have launched a week-long blitz targeting knife crime in Maidstone. Officers have focused on busy public spots like the High Street and Brenchley Gardens, stamping out violence and carrying out weapon sweeps where knives were spotted before.
Big Collaboration to Tackle Class A Drug Dealers and Gangs
Working alongside British Transport Police and Kent Police’s county lines and gangs squads, officers have also zeroed in on suspects travelling to Maidstone to peddle class A drugs. The operation targets both drugs and dangerous weapons, aiming to clean up the streets for good.
Local Shops Warned Over Knife Sales
Police have been visiting retailers, reminding them about legal rules on selling knives. Shops are urged to put up posters highlighting age limits and safety tips. Most businesses have top-notch safety practices, though a few received friendly advice to tighten up their measures.
“The tactics used this week in connection with Operation Sceptre support our ongoing work to remove weapons from our streets. My message to those who think nothing of bringing knives to the county town is clear: our officers are working in uniform and plain clothes and will be relentless in their efforts to bring you to justice,” said Inspector Steve Kent of Maidstone’s Community Safety Unit.
