Christmas Day Drama in English Channel: Dover RNLI and Helicopter Rescue Migrants
The Dover RNLI Lifeboat and the Coastguard Rescue 163 helicopter from Lydd, Kent, were scrambled just before 5pm on Christmas Day following a Mayday call from migrant vessels in the English Channel.
Migrant Boats Spotted Near Sandettie Lightvessel
Rescue teams raced to the scene near the Sandettie lightvessel station in the North Sea after multiple migrant boats were spotted. A French warship has been tracking the vessels, which are attempting to cross into the UK amid harsh winter conditions.
Reports suggest at least one boat carries 35-40 migrants. The helicopter Rescue 163 is currently circling overhead, coordinating the rescue operation.

In a bid to bolster the mission, a second RNLI lifeboat from Ramsgate has been launched to help recover more migrants and assist those in distress.
