Disabled Tennis Star Lily Mills Urges Young Athletes to Grab GLL 123 20 Awards

Disabled tennis ace Lily Mills is calling on young sports stars across the UK to apply for the prestigious GLL 123 20 awards. This top-tier scheme offers talented athletes a golden ticket to fund their sporting dreams and smash through financial barriers.

Funding Sports Dreams Across 65 UK Disciplines

The GLL Sport Foundation (GSF) hands out awards in 65 sports categories nationwide. These grants cover essential costs like training, gear, fitness conditioning, and travel, while promoting athletes’ physical and mental health. Winners also access GLL’s “Better” brand, which runs 250 sports and leisure centres UK-wide.

Lily Mills: Battling Against the Odds

Lily is a shining example of the awards’ impact. Diagnosed with meningitis, septicaemia, and rare galactosemia as a baby, she refused to be held back by her disabilities. Picking up a racket at five, Lily has risen through the ranks to compete in the ‘Persons with Intellectual Impairments’ category at the Australian Open grand slam.

“I’m really excited about the new round of GSF Awards. For young athletes like me, these awards can make a huge difference to staying in training and competing at the highest level,” said Lily Mills.

£14 Million and Counting: GSF’s Sporting Legacy

Over 15 years, GSF has poured £14 million into supporting 26,000 bright sporting talents. In 2024, the foundation plans to dish out £1.2 million more thanks to sponsorship and GLL’s backing.

  • Past winners include sprint star Daryll Neita
  • Table tennis wonder Anna Hursey
  • Champion cyclist Charlotte Worthington
  • Triathlon sensation Alex Yee

Peter Bundey, GLL Sport Foundation Chair, stressed, “Previous athletes tell us the awards provide a lifeline to individuals who want to compete at the highest level.”

Apply Now: Deadline 20 February 2024

Young athletes hungry for success must apply by 20 February 2024 at gllsportfoundation.org. Don’t miss your chance to get the backing you need to take your sport to the next level.
