A driver was rushed to hospital with a suspected spinal injury following a dramatic single-car crash in Croydon in the early hours of December 28. The smash happened around 2am on Wellesley Road, sparking an emergency response from the Met Police and London Ambulance Service.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene in record time, with the first ambulance on site within five minutes. The paramedic team treated the driver immediately for what appeared to be a spinal injury before speeding him to a major trauma centre for urgent care.

While officers investigated, road closures stayed in place throughout the morning, causing major traffic jams across Croydon. Authorities confirmed no other vehicles were involved and no arrests have been made so far.
Police were called at approximately 2am on Wednesday, 28 December to reports of a road traffic collision involving one car on Wellesley Road,” a Met Police spokesperson said. “The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution; he was not seriously injured.”
