Major London Tube & Overground Disruptions This Easter Bank Holiday

London commuters, brace yourselves! This Easter bank holiday weekend, key Overground and Elizabeth line services will be hit with closures and upgrades. If you’re travelling across the city, planning ahead is an absolute must.

Overground Services Suspended for Station Upgrades

Overground trains between Highbury & Islington and New Cross Gate, New Cross, plus Clapham Junction, will be completely suspended. The shutdown allows vital works at Surrey Quays station, including a shiny new station entrance and the all-important step-free access, making travel much easier for passengers with mobility needs.

On the Crystal Palace branch, signalling upgrades are underway to boost reliability and cut delays. No more waiting around for dodgy signals!

Sunday & Monday Closures on Liverpool Street Line

Passengers on the Liverpool Street route to Enfield Town, Cheshunt, and Chingford are in for disruption too. Services will be off the rails entirely on Sunday, March 31, and Monday, April 1, to carry out essential maintenance and upgrades aimed at improving journey efficiency.

Elizabeth Line & DLR Also Face Weekend Shuts

The Elizabeth line will shut between Paddington, Maidenhead, and Heathrow Terminal 4. TfL says these closures tackle technical glitches to deliver a smoother, more reliable service moving forward.

Meanwhile, parts of the DLR are also closing for track replacements. Sections between Stratford and West India Quay, Westferry and Canning Town, and Tower Gateway and Shadwell will be impacted. The goal? Safety boosts, more dependable journeys, and a slicker ride for passengers.

TfL Urges Travel Planning & Alternative Routes

“We advise commuters to plan ahead and explore alternative options this weekend,” said Glynn Barton, TfL’s Chief Operating Officer. “Full details and updates are available on the TfL website and through the TfL Go app.”

With these essential upgrades and maintenance, TfL aims to keep London moving safely and efficiently during the busy Easter break.
