Edinburgh’s legendary Hogmanay bash has been scrapped at the last minute. Organisers pulled the plug just hours before the festivities kicked off, warning of extreme weather and dangerous high winds.
All outdoor events for December 30 and 31 are officially off.

- Southern England faces more yellow wind warnings on New Year’s Day, with heavy rain set to lash the northwest from late December 31 to January 1.
Wales
- Yellow rain warning sweeps across Wales from 6pm on New Year’s Eve till 6pm New Year’s Day, hitting the entire country north to south.
Northern Ireland
- Yellow wind warnings loom over much of Northern Ireland on New Year’s Eve, posing risks of travel disruption and hazardous conditions.
