Person Dies at Elm Park Station in Early Morning Tragedy

A person has died following a serious incident at Elm Park Underground Station on the District Line in the early hours of Sunday, 31 August.

Emergency Crews Rush to Scene

London Ambulance Service" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance were called at 6.52am. Despite rapid response by ambulance crews, advanced paramedics, and a trauma team, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We were called at 6.52am on 31 August to reports of an incident at Elm Park Underground Station. We sent ambulance crews, an incident response officer, advanced paramedics, and hazardous area response team members. London’s Air Ambulance trauma team also responded. Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.” – London Ambulance Service spokesperson

District Line Chaos After Fatal Incident

The tragedy caused immediate disruption. The District Line was suspended between Dagenham East and Upminster. Severe delays stretched as far back as Earl’s Court. Elm Park station remained closed during the morning for recovery work.

Services resumed by 10am, but delays persisted. Later, a signal failure halted trains between Plaistow and Upney, extending disruption. By evening, commuters faced more than ten hours of major delays.

British Transport Police Launch Investigation

The British Transport Police (BTP) have been contacted and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. An update is expected in due course.
