Blaze Breaks Out in Newport Open Field – Fire Crews Battle Huge Flames

Firefighters from all over the Isle of Wight raced to tackle a massive open fire at St George’s Lane, Newport, this evening. The blaze, covering roughly 30 by 20 metres, sparked emergency action just after 9.45pm.

Police Called Over Suspicious Fire

Group Manager Dean Haywood revealed the fire was surrounded using beaters and two main water jets. A water relay system supplied by carriers kept the jets going.

“The fire has been surrounded using beaters and two main jets with water provided by a water relay using the two water carriers. A total of 4 appliances are on scene alongside 2 water carriers. Police have been called to the scene due to the suspicious nature of the incident.” – Group Manager Dean Haywood
