Shock and devastation hit professional golfer Chris Reed after lightning struck and engulfed his half a million-pound home in flames. The Bembridge property on Egerton Road was ravaged by a blazing fire this evening.
Firefighters Battle Blazing Roof Fire
Chris Reed, PGA professional at Westridge Golf Centre Golf Club, said at the scene: “I’ve lost everything.”
Four fire crews from Ryde, Shanklin, and Bembridge rushed to the massive blaze, armed with four appliances, an aerial ladder platform, and the Incident Command Unit. Firefighters battled to contain the fire that tore through the roof and several rooms.
Lightning Strike Blamed for Devastating Blaze
Investigators believe a lightning bolt sparked the inferno. The road remains cordoned off as emergency teams tackle the fire and probe the cause.
One Hospitalised and Possible Pet Lost
One person, thought to be a family member of Reed, was taken to hospital by Isle of Wight Ambulance service following the incident. Unfortunately, reports suggest the family may also have lost a pet in the fire.
